Mediation Is Often a Better Choice than Traditional Litigation
Legal battles can be costly and emotionally upsetting. In addition to legal fees, an often overlooked expense is the cost of a relationship broken by the process of traditional litigation. I can help you handle your divorce or resolve family law disputes in a better way, through mediation.
What is mediation? How does it work?
Mediation is a voluntary and alternative way of resolving disputes. It allows the parties involved to choose a neutral third party to help them find a solution to the issues at hand. The parties meet with the mediator and work together toward reaching an agreement.
Because mediation is non-binding, it has very little risk. If negotiations fail, the case can simply proceed to trial. All information discussed during mediation sessions is confidential and is not allowed to be used against you in any future litigation.
With my focus on family law, I have found mediation to be a very positive way for people to resolve disagreements and develop solutions to problems such as divorce and child custody.
Below are some of the areas in which we provide mediation.
Property division: Rather than having your property divided by a judicial formula, mediation allows you and your divorcing spouse to divide your property in a way you can both live with.
Child support and alimony: With the assistance of a knowledgeable lawyer, divorcing or unmarried couples can negotiate support agreements and submit them for court approval.
Child custody and visitation disputes: Coparenting requires both parents to work together. Mediation of disagreements over parenting time can help maintain or even build the working relationship you need to establish for the well-being of your children.
As your lawyer, I will represent your interests during the mediation process and make sure that you don't make mistakes in the agreement that could be rejected by the court. During my more than 30 years of practice, I have found that the majority of mediation cases end in a satisfactory settlement, saving my clients valuable time, money, and emotional energy.
